Offer + Landing Page Test Kit

By Edmund Yong
13 min read

Do not build the full app first. Write the offer, publish one landing page, drive qualified attention, and look for buying intent.

Emails are useful. Deposits, paid pilots, demo requests, and "can I use this now?" replies matter more.

Sell The Outcome Before The Product

Your first test is not "can I build this?" Your first test is "does a specific person want this outcome badly enough to act?"

Who This Is For

Use this if:

  • You have a specific app idea.
  • You know the target customer or are close to knowing it.
  • You want evidence before spending a weekend building.
  • You are willing to personally follow up with signups.
  • You care about first-dollar signal, not vanity traffic.

Do not use this as an excuse to avoid talking to users. A landing page is a conversation starter, not a substitute for selling.

What You Are Testing

TestQuestion
AudienceWho has this pain?
PainIs this annoying or urgent?
PromiseDoes the outcome sound valuable?
PriceWill they accept a stated price, pay a deposit, book a paid pilot, or ask for a payment link?
ChannelCan you reach them repeatedly?
TrustDo they believe you can deliver?

If you do not know which of these is failing, you do not have a landing page problem. You have a measurement problem.

The One-Page Offer Template

Complete this before writing the page.

Offer name:

1. Customer
I help [specific person] who [specific situation].

2. Pain
They struggle with [painful job], which causes [cost, delay, embarrassment, lost money, wasted time].

3. Current workaround
Today they use [manual workaround/tool], but it breaks because [specific failure].

4. Desired outcome
They want [clear result] without [annoying effort].

5. Promise
[Product] helps [customer] get [outcome] in [timeframe] by [simple mechanism].

6. Product shape
This is a [dashboard / Chrome extension / mobile app / AI assistant / report generator / workflow tool] that does these 3 things:
- [Core job 1]
- [Core job 2]
- [Core job 3]

7. Reason to believe
Why might they believe this?
- I have the same problem
- I manually did this for 3 users
- I have screenshots or a working prototype
- I have domain experience
- I can deliver it manually first

8. Price hypothesis
I believe this is worth [$price or price range].

9. Call to action
The one action I want is [join waitlist / book call / request beta / pay deposit / apply for pilot].

10. Kill criteria
I will not build this version if [specific decision rule is missed].
Plain English Test

If you cannot complete this template without buzzwords, your idea is not ready for a landing page. Narrow the customer or the outcome first.

Landing Page Copy Framework

Use one page. No clever copy. No vague AI words. No "revolutionize your workflow."

Hero

Headline:
[Achieve outcome] without [painful current workaround].

Subheadline:
For [specific audience] who [specific situation]. [Product] helps you [specific result] by [simple mechanism].

CTA:
Join the early access list / Book a 15-minute call / Request the beta

Microcopy:
Early version. Built with feedback from the first 10 users.

Problem Section

You probably have this problem if:
- [Specific symptom]
- [Specific symptom]
- [Specific symptom]

The cost:
[Lost time, lost money, missed opportunities, stress, embarrassment, risk]

Outcome Section

With [Product], you can:
- [Outcome 1]
- [Outcome 2]
- [Outcome 3]

How It Works

1. Connect, upload, describe, or paste [input].
2. [Product] analyzes, organizes, generates, or tracks [process].
3. You get [finished output or result].

What You Get

Bad:

AI-powered productivity dashboard

Good:

A daily list of the 5 leads you should follow up with first, including the exact message to send.

Who It Is For

Built for:

  • [Specific customer]
  • [Specific situation]
  • [Specific trigger event]

Not built for:

  • [Wrong customer]
  • [Wrong use case]
  • [Advanced team or enterprise need you are not ready for]

Price Anchor

Choose one:

  • Expected price: $19/mo
  • Founding customer price: $29/mo
  • Concierge beta: $199 one-time setup
  • Paid pilot: $300 for 30 days
  • Free early access while I build with the first 10 users, if the goal is learning rather than first-dollar validation

FAQ

Use the FAQ to reduce uncertainty without pretending the product is more mature than it is.

QuestionHonest Answer
Is this available today? Not publicly yet. I am inviting the first users manually so I can build the right version.
How much will it cost?I am testing pricing now. Expected range: [$X-$Y]. Early users will get founding customer pricing.
What happens after I join?I will email you with 2-3 questions. If it looks like a fit, I will invite you to the beta or book a short call.
Is this built with AI?Yes, but the important part is the outcome: [specific outcome]. You do not need to prompt anything manually.
